Nestled in the mountainside of northwest Reno, Sierra Canyon at Somersett Village is considered by many to be one of the top destinations in Reno for those looking to live in an active 55+ community. Located on the south slope of Peavine Mountain in the Somersett region, This Del Webb community experiences a mild four-season climate. During the Spring and Summer months, residents enjoy strolling the paved walkways around the neighborhood. If you’re into a bit of competition, play a round of golf at the Somersett Golf and Country Club, a top-rated golf course nestled within Sierra Canyon. With magnificent mountain views and fantastic restaurants, it’s no surprise that the club won Best of Reno’s “Best Golf Club” award just last year. Over the winter months, enjoy the Aspen Lodge, the 2,000 square foot clubhouse that boasts an indoor pool and walking track. If you’re looking for social activities, there are numerous clubs and instructed fitness classes to choose from.

We asked Sierra Canyon residents to give us a first-hand account of what it is like living in the community. Diane, an 11-year resident, describes her appreciation of the weather. “I love that we have all four seasons! We do have a bit more weather here than downtown Reno in the winter… but to me, it’s all in my comfort zone.” When asked about her favorite activities, she describes her admiration for the expansive outdoor scenery. “I love being so close to hiking trails all around the area.” In fact, she states that the beautiful mountainside terrain is what brought her to the community in the first place. “I came to the Reno/Sparks area for the outdoors, the skiing, and the hiking.” Madi, a 5-year resident of Sierra Canyon, agrees with Diane. “My favorite amenity is the paved hiking trails around the neighborhood.”
